Particle-hole symmetry and the Bose glass to superfluid transition.

چکیده
The generic Hamiltonian describing the zero temperature transition between the insulating Bose glass phase and the superfluid phase lacks particle-hole symmetry, but a statistical version of this symmetry is believed to be restored at the critical point. We show that the renormalization group relevance of particle-hole asymmetry may be explored in a controlled fashion only for small time dimensions, et ø 1, where we find a stable particle-hole asymmetric and an unstable particle-hole symmetric fixed point, but we provide evidence that the two merge for some finite et ø 2 3 , which tends to confirm symmetry restoration at the physical et 1.

Phase diagram of a disordered boson Hubbard model in two dimensions.
We study the zero-temperature phase transition of a two-dimensional disordered boson Hubbard model. The phase diagram is constructed in terms of the disorder strength and the chemical potential. Via Monte Carlo simulations, we find a multicritical line separating the weak-disorder regime, where the Mott-insulator-to-superfluid transition occurs, from the strong-disorder regime, where the Bose-g...

We investigate the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC, superfluidity) of particle-hole pairs in ultracold fermionic atoms with repulsive interactions and arbitrary polarization, which are trapped within optical lattices. In the strongly repulsive limit, the dynamics of particle-hole pairs can be described by a hard-core Bose-Hubbard model. The insulator-superfluid and charge-density-wave- (CDW) su...
متن کاملMott glass to superfluid transition for random bosons in two dimensions
We study the zero-temperature superfluid-insulator transition for a two-dimensional model of interacting, lattice bosons in the presence of quenched disorder and particle-hole symmetry. We follow the approach of a recent series of papers by Altman, Kafri, Polkovnikov, and Refael, in which the strong disorder renormalization group is used to study disordered bosons in one dimension. Adapting thi...

متن کاملOrder via Nonlinearity in Randomly Confined Bose gases
A Hartree-Fock mean-field theory of a weakly interacting Bose-gas in a quenched white noise disorder potential is presented. A direct continuous transition from the normal gas to a localized Bose-glass phase is found which has localized short-lived excitations with a gapless density of states and vanishing superfluid density. The critical temperature of this transition is as for an ideal gas un...
